LVYP Kiwanis continued to put in some big service hours during the weekend of April 20-22. The weekend began with members participating in UNLV’s Relay of Life event, whose beneficiary is the American Cancer Society. Along with a couple of Kiwanians from Greater Henderson, Key Clubbers from Coral Academy, and Circle Kers from UNLV, CSN, Nevada State, and UC-Riverside, their team continued to walk through the night in an effort to show that cancer never sleeps.
The following morning, LVYP Kiwanians joined up at Boulder Harbor at Lake Mead Recreation Center for the annual Kiwanis One Day. With approximately 40% of the LVYP membership present, they helped clean up the Boulder Harbor shore along with members of Kiwanis, Circle K, Aktion Club, Key Club, and Builder’s Club. At the event, LVYP Kiwanis coordinated a pop tab competition to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Las Vegas. The Kiwanis Club that brought the most tabs was from Pahrump Valley. The Sponsored Leadership Program (SLP) that brought the most tabs was from Coral Academy. Every club that participated in the pop tab competition will receive a banner patch to commemorate their hard work.
After a quick break to cool down, five LVYP Kiwanis members headed over to the Ronald McDonald House for their monthly service project meeting. In addition to cooking a dinner of BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, LVYP made the formal donation of pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. In total, they helped collect nearly seven trash cans full of pop tabs. They were told it was one of the larger pop tab donations they have ever seen.
Finally, on Sunday, LVYP Kiwanis showed its support of the Circle K Clubs of the Desert Oasis Division by running a workshop on communication and team building as well as attending the Divisional Council Meeting. In total, the LVYP Kiwanis members logged in just under 120 hours of service in the weekend.
