St. Jude’s Ranch for Kids BBQ

stjudesranch.org

St. Jude’s Ranch for Kids provides aid to at-risk youth through various programs that “offer a continuum of care for children and families to help break the cycle of abuse and neglect by mending spirits and renewing hope.” Their campus in Boulder City, a sprawling 40 acres of property, needs constant maintenance from volunteers. This helps keeps funds from being spent on admin costs and redirects that to provide more care for the kids. Kiwanis will gather to provide landscaping and other beautification tasks around the campus.

In addition to this landscaping project, we will be sponsoring a luncheon for up to 80 of the youths enrolled in their programs and their youth care staff. We will host a BBQ for the youth as well as interact with them through games and arts and crafts.

If you wish to be part of this project, please contact Ryan of LVYP Kiwanis
Volunteers will be expected to wear close toed shoes and outfits made for outdoor work. Please consider wearing a Kiwanis or Kiwanis Family T-shirt to show your spirit. If you have outdoor work equipment (gloves, rakes, work boots, etc.) please bring that as well as we will not have enough for every volunteer.

Touch a Truck is a community event hosted by Family to Family Connection – a non-profit that “empowers and supports families to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children through parent education and community networking.” At this event, the community will be invited to share in a family friendly day of exploring the vehicles of local town heroes such as Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, Construction Workers, etc. Volunteers will be needed to help staff the event.

This event was brought to our attention by Desert Oasis High School Key Club. Please contact Jillian Andreottola: Desertoasiskc.pres@gmail.com

New Vista and Project Angel Faces

“Join the young adults of multiple Kiwanis Key Clubs from across the Las Vegas Valley as we work together to make great strides in expanding the New Vista Ranch garden program!
On April 11th, 2015, from 8:30 am-2:30 pm, at this year’s K1 Day, we will accomplish the following tasks:
paint the garden boxes, any unpainted fence, and the new compost bins; move the newly chipped bark mulch into place; complete the creation of the new flagstone entrance; add soil into the newly built garden boxes; plant seeds; separate seed from chaff; harvest what is ripe and clean it for sharing; fertilize the fruit trees; and pull up the roots of all the weeds, especially the Bermuda grass growing where it shouldn’t be.
In order to protect ourselves from the elements while working in this garden, participants MUST wear long pants and closed toe shoes, sunscreen, and a sun hat. Participants are also requested to bring a water bottle, work gloves, and a handkercheif/bandana. These are important safety measures that must be honored. Thank you!
We will have a load of fun, learn a lot about growing organic food, make new friends, and accomplish so much toward helping grow this garden dream more fully into being! If the right crew of adults can join us, we will be able to complete chipping the remainder of the brush pile, too! Can you join us, bring some strong and handy friends, and help us accomplish our big tasks with the wood chipper?
We look very forward to working with Kiwanis of North Las Vegas and all the Kiwanis Key Clubs again at New Vista Ranch. You are cordially invited to come out and help us have a successful K1 Day 2015. Please share this invitation with your appropriate community networks.
RSVP with your commitment today!
Thank you for supporting the success of the New Vista Garden of Project AngelFaces and K1 Day 2015!!
